The Bath Festival: THE LURE OF HOLLYWOOD IN FILM AND SONG
The Bath Festival: THE LURE OF HOLLYWOOD IN FILM AND SONG
Composers such as Korngold, Rosza, Waxman, Eisler and Weill fled Europe to Hollywood in the 1930s. We track them through their personal stories in song, films such as the Sea Hawk and Robin Hood and even in home movies. Their music ranges from the lushness of Korngold to the bitter, spare Hollywood Songbook of Eisler. TV presenter and celebrated silent film pianist Neil Brand and leading accompanist Iain Burnside join together to present a wonderful evening of song and film.
‘Our genial guide, a composer himself, wore his formidable knowledge lightly.’ – ArtsDesk on Neil Brand
