U-July 22/Utøya 22. juli | FilmBath
U-July 22 presented by FilmBath.
Esteemed Norwegian director Erik Poppe’s U – July 22 is a ‘visceral, brutal, yet heartfelt and earnest movie, which imbibes the innocent bewilderment and horror of its young characters’ – Peter Bradshaw. The film follows Kaja (Andrea Berntzen), a young woman caught up in the 2011 Utøya shooting. Once the attack begins, Poppe’s camera remains with her throughout, in a single 72-minute take, as she desperately looks for her sister. Technically brilliant and ‘a moving testimony’ (Screen International) to the victims and survivors, the film received a ten-minute standing ovation at its Berlin premiere.
At the Odeon, Bath.
