On Tuesday 23rd October, British indie folk-rock legend WILL VARLEY will take to Komedia’s stage with his unique mix of poetic lyrics, heartfelt ballads and the occasional shaggy-dog story. This is one for fans of Frank Turner and The Proclaimers, both of whom Varley has toured with extensively.
Celebrating the release of his 5th studio album, Spirit of Minnie, British folk singer-songwriter Will Varley will hit Komedia Bath this October as part of his brand new UK tour!
Having recently completed a world tour including an extensive list of dates in the US and Europe, the fiercely independent singer-songwriter Will Varley brings his explosive brand of contemporary British folk music to Komedia Bath on Tuesday 23rd October.
Having first grabbed the attention of the UK independent music scene opening for the likes of Frank Turner and The Proclaimers on their UK and international tours, Varley’s unique brand of British folk scales the full spectrum of storytelling; from farcical ‘shaggy dog stories’ about supermarket self- checkout machines, to beautifully crafted allegorical songs mixing real-life stories, historical legends, existential quandaries, and political frustrations.
His live shows dance effortlessly between sharp humour, scathing social commentary and raw heart- breaking emotion.
Described recently by Donovan as “The next generation” and counting the likes of Billy Bragg and Tim Minchin amongst his fans, it seems the rambling songwriter who cut his teeth haunting the open mics of south London is finally getting the attention he deserves.
Don’t miss your chance to catch this icon of the British independent folk scene, live in a unique, seated Komedia Bath show on Tuesday 23rd October.
“His strongest work to date…evoking the likes of Bright Eyes, Springsteen and Dylan effortlessly.” Clash
“While he may have produced his darkest album to date… it’s also arguably his strongest” Folk Radio UK
“Certain to turn ears his way… Varley feels very much a voice for what could soon become the 21st Century’s lost generation” Folk Radio UK
“At his lyrical best” The Times
