The Guildhall in Bath, one of the city’s most popular wedding venues is providing the setting for a new BBC drama which has been filming in Bath this week. The series will be based on the Profumo Affair, a political scandal that took place in the 1960s. As well as being one of the premier venues in the city for weddings, the Guildhall is also home to Council meeting rooms, conference rooms and a busy weekly market, among other events. It is one of Bath’s most elegant buildings and with its location near the Abbey and the Wier is a good spot for visitors to the city to take in the gorgeous Georgian architecture.
Film crews could be seen around the Guildhall in the city centre, as well as cast members including Emilia Fox, James Norton and Sophie Cookson, who has been cast as the lead in the drama, which is expected to air in November of this year and is written by BAFTA award-winning novelist and screenwriter Amanda Coe.
According to the BBC, the series will be called The Trial of Christine Keeler and will focus on the events of the Profumo Affair, which took place in the 1960s when the Secretary of State for War was found to be having an affair with a nineteen-year-old model from the point of view of Christine Keeler, the young model involved.
As well as filming in Bath around the Guildhall and the surrounding streets, film crews have also been seen in Bristol.
