ACCOMMODATION
The single storey luxury self-catering cottage is 66 metres square…with a large open plan sitting room, with a 3 seater sofa and a snuggle sofa (which can double as a single sofa bed) and a modern fully equipped kitchen with washing machine and full size dishwasher.
The calmly appointed bedroom in cream and turquoise has a luxury 1400 sprung king sized bed, with top quality Egyptian cotton bed linen. The only noise likely to waken you are the owls in the tree tops.
For those balmy evenings, the private patio overlooking the valley is an ideal spot ..with a stone built barbecue and table and chairs you can enjoy every meal without being disturbed.
Being so close to Bath, Tucking Mill View is the perfect balance for relaxing and unwinding as well as exploring the beauties of the Bath and wandering in the Somerset and Wiltshire countryside.
As well as the gold Award for exceptional welcome, Visit England have also awarded the cottage the Cyclists’ and Walkers’ Welcome Awards and the cottage is an ideal centre for waling and cycling, particularly with he newly opened Two Tunnel Route into Bath..Sustrans 24 which passes by the cottage.
AROUND AND ABOUT
This secluded hamlet takes its name from the process of ‘tucking’ ,a process for cleansing wool, was undertaken. Being halfway between the historic villages of Midford and Monkton Combe, Tucking Mill benefits from access to two independent gastro pubs both within a 15 minute walk along the lanes, serving delicious home cooked food at evening and lunch times. The famous community pub, the Packhorse in South Stoke is a lovely 30 minute walk up the valley.

There are tow apartness in the city centre – the Old smithy Loft and No 2 Hedgemead court and a further two cottages in the vicinity of Tucking Mill, Midford….Brooks’ View and Fishermen’s Retreat, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The property is managed by the Family Team ..with Ann who has a background in hospitality and done much travelling, Michael who built the barbecues and cares of the birds and the gardens and Head Housekeepr Nikki, the team will do its utmost to ensure you enjoy your stays. The kitchen is fully equipped. clothes washer, dishwasher, coffeemaker, toaster as well as an electric oven, microwave, fridge , freezer, breakfast crockery and standard crockery are all provided. Basic starter pack includes coffee, tea , milk, sugar, salt and pepper. Cleaning materials are also provided.
Media facilities include free Wifi throughout, iPod charger, DVD player, flatscreen TV downstairs. Lovely local walks and cycle rides being on Sustrans 24. Books, DVDs and plenty of leaflets on things to do in the cottage. Historic area being the home of William smith, the father of English Geology.
All utilities and tax included. Egyptian cotton linen and towels provided. There is also a wood burning stove with logs. Washing up liquid, tea towels & loo rolls also provided.

Wheelwrights in Monkton Combe, Hope & Anchor in Miford, PackHorse in Southstoke.
William Smith, the Father of English Geology, lived in one of the houses in Tucking Mill. Simon Winchester wrote the Map that changed the World about Smith’s original work in this field which even today is used as the geological basis for surveys. Examples of the strata are to be found on the Sustrans cycle path just behind the cottage. Ann can provide further info in interested.
There is a lovely reservoir also on the other side..do wander there and see the bats and birds in the evening. You might even catch sight of a cormorant fishing the large carp.
Being on Sustrans 24 means you can walk into Bath through the Two Tunnels or even cycle and there are endless walks around. You can walk to the 2 local pubs within 15 mins..and other further away.
Beng on 12 minutes from Bath means there is no excuse not to visit all the historic beauties but many guests find they just love the peace and quiet at Tucking Mill.
Close by there is the lovely National Trust garden of Prior Park, and going in the opposite direction, the Saxon village of Bradford on Avon, the film location of Lacock (Harry Potter, Mansfield Park amongst many others) and even Stone Henge is within 45 minutes drive.
For the children, Longleat with its fabulous animals and lovely house is only 20 minutes distant.
