Business of the month: Article

Bath is full of interesting independent shops selling all manner of fascinating gifts and products. Article is no exception, the shop, which can be found on Bartlett Street, is a truly creative emporium.

Going to Article will guarantee you the chance to find artisan homeware, antiques, ceramics and hand poured botanical candles. All of which are made on site by owner, Lucy, as well as plants and fresh flowers.

As you can imagine from someone who takes time and pride in her creations and the products she stocks, Lucy’s favourite things to do in Bath are full of interesting, mediative activities to invigorate mind and soul.

To Lucy, here favourite things include going to stand in Bath Abbey and soaking up the history of the site. It is lucky then that she often helps out with the flower displays in the Abbey and that she got married there!

Recommendations

For those of you staying in the city, Lucy recommends heading to Café Lucca or the Green Bird Café in Upper Town for breakfast before heading over Pulteney Bridge and down Great Pulteney Street to visit the Holburne Museum. “They offer great Up Late Evenings on the last Friday of the month and the exhibitions are wonderful,” she said.

Other activities Lucy likes to do in the city include walking across the circle to the antique store, Beau Nash, which is on the way to the Crescent and visiting the shops at Margaret’s Buildings, followed by an afternoon swim at the nearby Babington House.

Lucy also enjoys cycling on her electric bike through the Somerset countryside and rowing along the river. She said: “I go all the way up to the weird and look out for the swan I once rescued.”

Visitors should also mooch around the Green Park vintage market on a Sunday and visit the Farmers’ Market there on a Saturday morning and if they’re planning a fun weekend, they should stop for an end of the week cocktail at the Queensberry Hotel Bar. “It’s a quiet hidden gem, follow it with dinner at Henry’s my favourite local restaurant, just near my shop.”

This is all topped off with a mediative walk through Henrietta Park or the Botanic Gardens.
