Several of Bath’s independent music venues are joining the hundreds of independent venues across the country in celebrating Independent Venue Week from 28th January to 3rd February.
Independent Venue Week is all about celebrating the spirit of independence and the culture of live music, and as Bath is known for being a city that celebrates culture, music and festivals, it is very apt that it is being recognised in one of the city’s biggest independent venues.
In Bath, award-winning venues, Komedia, Moles, St James’ Wine Vaults and the Widcombe Social Club are all being recognised and are taking part.
According to the official Independent Venue Week website, this is all about recognising the hard work that is put into showcasing independent live music. The venues that are taking part form the backbone of the UK’s music scheme.
Moles, which can be found on George Street has been connecting music fans with local, independent acts, some of which have gone on to find fame, since 1978. It is housed in a listed building and is the perfect place to check out some local music for those of you with an interest in Bath’s architecture.
St James’ Wine Vaults on St James’ Street has been a popular music venue for over fifteen years and has two performances spaces, the Gallery which has long Georgian windows and high ceilings and the Cellar in the vaults of the building which has been compared to Liverpool’s Caravan Club.
Komedia Bath is one of the city’s most well known venues. You can find it in the Grade II listed former Beau Nash cinema and offers everything from comedy, music, cabaret and everything in between. It is a great venue for music and comedy fans alike, as well as helping support a number of Bath’s other independent organisations and performers and those looking to socialise.
Out of the centre is Widcombe Social Club, a comfortable and friendly space open to everyone and set out over two floors. The club host a wide variety of events and have a packed calendar for anyone looking for something to do when in the city.
As part of the celebrations, each venue will be hosting extra special performances throughout Independent Venue Week, so be sure to check their websites for ticket information and help support Bath’s independent, local venues.
